Tenuta La Ghiaia

Tenuta La Ghiaia is a boutique estate located just outside of the town of Sarzana in Liguria on the southernmost part of the Riviera di Levante, where its vineyards meet the influence of both the Mediterranean Sea and the rugged Apennine foothills. The property is situated in the prized Colli di Luni DOC appellation and is known for its artisanal, small-production approach, focusing on expressive wines that reflect the coastal freshness and mineral-driven character of the region.

The estate works primarily with native and regional varietals – most prominently exceptional Vermentino – crafting wines that emphasize purity, elegance, and balance rather than weight or extraction. The vineyards are planted on an ancient riverbed, so the soils are rich in gravel, stones, and alluvial deposits—which is where the name “Ghiaia” (meaning gravel) comes from.Careful vineyard management and gentle winemaking techniques are central to their philosophy, allowing the natural acidity and aromatic lift of the grapes to remain at the forefront.

The resulting wines are typically vibrant and food-friendly, with a distinct saline edge, bright fruit profiles, and a refined sense of place that reflects Liguria’s unique coastal terroir.
