Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo was the first wine produced when the family decided to make their own wine. An elegant and personal interpretation of the Montepulciano from Loreto Aprutino. The wine is made from repeated harvests in the same plots, followed by a further selection on the sorting table, and then after fermentation in steel tanks to retain the fruit purity, aged in barriques to achieve a natural stability.

Appellation: Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC

Type: Red Wine

Varietal: 100% Montepulciano

Certified Organic

Wine Details:

Tasting Notes:
Color: Deep, violet shaded ruby red.
Bouquet: An elegant nose, with clean and complex dark fruit, lightly enriched by spicy hints typical of old-vine grapes (the vineyard was planted in 1972 and some non-productive vines were replaced in 1995). Their is a gentle presence of barrel aging in the tertiary notes.
Palate: An almost pulpy textural richness gives the wine a smoothness which is balanced by the fine tannins. The natural minerality of the terroir along with its well-measured acidity, contribute to an elegant, long finish.
Alcohol: 13-14% depending on the vintage

Pairing: Perfect paired to simple meat dishes of the abruzzese style – grilled meats, pork cif e ciaf, lamb coratella, arrosticini (lamb or mutton grilled on skewers over a furnacella). It also goes well with lentil or bean dishes and hearty stews.

Reviews:

2009 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo – 92 Points – Vinous Media (Feb 2013)
“The estate's2009 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Mazzamarello wraps around the palate with layers of silky dark, red fruit. This is an especially polished, refined Montepulciano that shows the more elegant side of what this grape is capable of. Sweet floral and spice notes add even more finesse to the long, supple finish. This juicy, expressive red is a terrific effort from Torre dei Beati.” ~A.G.

2010 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo – 88 Points – Vinous Media (Feb 2013)

“The 2010 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a frank, honest wine with plenty of dark fruit and a rich, enveloping personality. There is nothing fancy here, just a rich, dense Montepulciano with excellent varietal character and more than enough fruit to provide pleasure for at least a few years. Hints of tar, licorice and game wrap around the finish.” ~A.G.
