Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle
This wine comes from vines that shouldn’t work. 900-1200 meters up, at the foot of Mont Blanc, on terraces too steep and too small for machines — trained on pergolas barely a meter off the ground so the vines can steal warmth back from the stones at night. The grape is Prié Blanc, and it grows essentially nowhere else on earth. It’s also ungrafted, growing on its own roots the way European vines did before phylloxera, because the louse can’t survive up here either. What lands in your glass is a white wine with the volume turned down and the focus turned way up: alpine herbs and green apple, white flowers, wet stone, and an acid line that snaps to attention.
